(Iriomote Island Ecotourisum Promotion Act)
Iriomote Island is working to start a system of "entry approval" in March 2025 that requires prior approval from the mayor when entering "specific natural tourism resources" that require protection of the natural environment.

Iriomote Island is blessed with rich nature, and many flora and fauna, including the Iriomote wildcat, can be seen, and it is registered as a World Natural Heritage site. It is also a special island with a culture and lifestyle that has been cultivated while coexisting with them. There are attractions that can only be experienced here, and many people visit for tourism. Iriomote Island is promoting "Iriomote Island Ecotourism" with the aim of allowing visitors to fully enjoy the island's charm, protecting the natural environment and local culture so that they are not damaged by tourism, and leading to the sustainable development of the region.
In Iriomote Island Ecotourism, we set the places where tourism will be conducted, the number of visitors, and rules, and recommend the use of guides (tourist guides) to ensure a safe and high-quality experience. Taketomi Town licenses guides who can properly convey the charm of Iriomote Island and support visitors to enjoy it safely. Only those who hold this license can show you around the forests and rivers of Iriomote Island as a tourist guide. When you visit Iriomote Island, be sure to experience the deep nature of Iriomote Island accompanied by a licensed tourist guide.
