Tourism EXPO JAPAN 2024

Kinokawa City

Kinokawa City was created by the merger of five towns in the Kinokawa River basin in Heisei 17. Located in the northern part of Wakayama Prefecture, adjacent to Osaka Prefecture to the north and Wakayama City to the west, it is a convenient place for people to live, and has abundant local resources, including the abundant blessings and beautiful natural environment brought about by the clear Kino River, and a traditional history and culture that has been nurtured over many years.
Beautiful nature and abundant crops
The Izumi Mountains are located in the north and the Kii Mountains are located in the south, and the Kino River, which is the origin of the city's name, flows east and west between them. Furthermore, from the south, the Kishi River joins the river, forming a cityscape in harmony with the waterfront environment. In addition, we make the most of the warm climate and the fertile soil brought by the Kino River to produce a wide variety of crops such as vegetables and fruits. It is one of the leading fruit-producing areas in Japan where seasonal fruits such as hasaku, figs, persimmons, kiwifruit, and strawberries can be harvested, including the top brand "Aragawa peach" in Wakayama Prefecture. In addition, there are many processed products that are fully enriched, and they are gaining high popularity for their safety and quality that is particular about the real thing
Traditional history and culture
Cultural properties such as the historic site of Kii Kokubun-ji Temple, Kogawa-ji Temple, Tomobuchi Hachiman Shrine, and Mifune Shrine are irreplaceable treasures of the local community that have been carefully protected and handed down for generations. In addition, the Kogawa Festival, one of the three major festivals in Kishu, and other town-wide festivals create vitality in the region. In addition, it has produced world-class greats such as Hanaoka seishu, who was the first in the world to successfully perform surgery to remove breast cancer under general anesthesia during the Edo period.
Convenient location
Since it is adjacent to Izumisano City, where Kansai Airport is located, it is close to Osaka Prefecture and has good access to overseas. The market for foreign visitors to Japan, which is expected to expand further in the future, and the export of agricultural products overseas, are also considered to be major opportunities for economic revitalization. In addition, with the opening of the Keinawa Expressway in 2014, access to Nara and Kyoto prefectures was improved, and in 2017, the Kyonawa Expressway and the Hanwa Expressway were directly connected, further improving access.
Location of a university where young people gather
Established in 1993, University's Faculty of Applied Physics and Engineering is one of the few institutions of higher education in Wakayama Prefecture with 1,900 students (as of May 2017). In 2016, we concluded an agreement on comprehensive collaboration in order to contribute to the further development and revitalization of the two companies and regional revitalization by taking advantage of each other's characteristics not only in the field of education. The existence of a university where young people gather is a major driving force for the development of a vibrant city.
