The Citadel of Dinant
The Citadel of Dinant - A Must-See Destination in the Heart of Wallonia
Overlooking the Meuse Valley, the Citadel of Dinant is one of Wallonia's most iconic historical landmarks. Accessible by car or via its famous 408-step staircase, it offers breathtaking panoramic views over the town of Dinant and the Meuse River.
The visit is enhanced by the HistoPad, an interactive tablet that allows visitors to explore the Citadel as it appeared throughout different periods of history through 3D reconstructions and augmented reality. This immersive experience makes the site's history easier to understand and greatly enriches the visitor experience.
The Citadel can easily be combined with visits to the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame, the Maison de Monsieur Sax, the "Sax in the City" trail, and a cruise on the Meuse River, making it possible to create either a half-day or full-day itinerary.
Since 2025, the historic vessel JEFF, which took part in Operation Dynamo during the Second World War, has been offering a new cruise that combines history, heritage, and the scenic beauty of the Meuse Valley.
Dinant also serves as an ideal base for exploring nearby attractions such as Freÿr Castle, Vêves Castle, the Gardens of Annevoie, and Maredsous Abbey. Easily accessible from Brussels and Namur, the destination fits perfectly into a broader itinerary through Wallonia or the Ardennes.
With its rich historical heritage, cultural experiences, and spectacular natural landscapes, Dinant offers excellent opportunities for developing travel products for both group tours and independent travelers from the Japanese market.
