Tourism EXPO Japan 2026
Wakasa Bay Tourism Association(Turuga・Mihama・Wakasa・Obama・Ohi・Takahama)
The Tsuruga-Wakasa area is located in the southwestern part of Fukui Prefecture, facing Wakasa Bay.
This area is blessed with beautiful nature, including not only stunning coastlines and beaches, but also the mystical Mikata Five Lakes and the mountains that stretch along the border between Shiga and Kyoto prefectures.
This region has long played an important role as a gateway to the continent, and has also been a center for transporting marine resources such as salt and seafood to present-day Nara and Kyoto, supporting the food supply of the capital.
Interaction with the capital was not limited to the transport of goods; many Shinto rituals and festivals with ties to ancient Kyoto and Nara have been preserved and passed down, indicating a thriving exchange of people and culture. This area, steeped in ancient history, retains many historical buildings and beautiful shrines and temples.
In the Tsuruga and Wakasa area, you can be soothed by the changing seasons, the delicious food, and experience history and culture.
