Shingu City

Shingu City, located on the Kii Peninsula, is surrounded on all sides by rich nature, including deep forests, the Kumano River, and the sparkling blue waters of the Kumano Sea. The Kumano Sanzan, which are sacred sites such as Kumano Hayatama-Taisya Shrine and ancient pilgrimage routes, were registered as a World Heritage Site in 2004 as "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range." In Shingu City, such World Heritage sites as Kumano Hayatama-taisya Shrine, Kamikura Shrine, Asuka Shrine, and the Kumano River, a pilgrimage route along the river, are scattered throughout the city, blending in with the everyday scenery. The city is not only rich in nature, but also in culture, having produced many cultural figures such as Isaku Nishimura, founder of Bunka Gakuin, and Kenji Nakagami, an Akutagawa Prize-winning author. Shingu City is also rich in nature and culture, and offers a wide range of activities such as camping and riverboat cruises on the Kumano River, which is part of the World Heritage Site. Please visit Shingu City.
