Tourism EXPO Japan 2025 Aichi/Central Japan

Echizen City

Fukui City is located almost in the center of Fukui Prefecture, and it is a 2-hour drive from Nagoya. Fukui City is the birthplace of "Echizen Oroshi Soba," a proud food culture of Fukui that started over 400 years ago. There are 40-50 soba shops in the city, each offering their own specialty soba with different styles of broth, condiments, and soba water. The city is currently aiming to become the best soba destination in Japan, with the mayor of Fukui City serving as the chairman of the Echizen Oroshi Soba National PR Project and seven dedicated soba artisans working on perfecting their soba. In January 2026, a traveling soba festival is planned where visitors can enjoy different soba shops, including a specially developed "Kani Soba" that combines Fukui's winter delicacies of crab and soba.

The next NHK historical drama will be "Toyotomi Brothers," set in the Sengoku period. The city boasts compact remains of a castle town from that era, with excavations revealing extensive stone walls believed to be part of Fuchu Castle. It is a town where you can follow in the footsteps of historical figures engraved in Japan's history. Unaffected by wartime or natural disasters, the old highways and temple complexes provide an ideal setting for strolls. The city also has local volunteer tour guides available to enhance your experience. After savoring delicious Echizen soba, immerse yourself in the rich history of the Sengoku period still prevalent in the cityscape.

As a prize for the gachapon lottery at the event, we have prepared an invitation for two to the OSK Revue Show held at the Takafu Chrysanthemum Doll Festival, one of Japan's three great chrysanthemum doll exhibitions. Additionally, there is a set of 10 mystery-solving games utilizing the historical and emotional essence of the town. Our booth also offers novelty goods such as note pads featuring the Hokuriku Shinkansen "Echizen Takafu" and macaron memos inspired by Murasaki Shikibu. Please visit the Fukui Prefecture booth and enjoy these offerings!
