Tourism EXPO JAPAN 2024

Yakushima

In 1993, Yakushima was registered as Japan's first World Natural Heritage Site along with the Shirakami Mountain Range. And last year we celebrated our 30th anniversary with joy. In 2005 Yakushima was registered as the Ramsar Convention. In 2016 it was registered the UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme site. Yakushima has become the only place in Japan that has the honor of having three UNESCO sites.

Yakushima has many well-known and popular tourist spots, such as Mt. Miyanoura, which is the highest mountain in Kyushu; Jomonsugi Cedar, which is estimated to be anywhere from 2000 to 7200 years old; and Shiratani Unsuikyo Ravine, which is famous as the setting for the animated film Princess Mononoke. Yakushima is not only renowned for its beautiful mountains, but also for its clear water. There are several marine activities such as scuba diving, SUP, and kayaking that can be enjoyed year-round.

Yakushima has an Official Certified Guide System, which is recommended by Yakushima-cho for safe and enjoyable outdoor activities. The use of knowledgeable, certified guides will help create a tour package that will be not only enjoyable but also satisfying. Participants can gain a deeper understanding and knowledge of Yakushima.

There are direct flights to Yakushima from Kagoshima, Osaka (Itami), and Fukuoka. You can also use marine transportations, Jetfoil (high-speed boats) and ferries, between Kagoshima and Yakushima.
