Tourism EXPO Japan 2026
shibuyabai / Katsugite
"shibuyabai" is a self-operated inbound business hub in Shibuya Center-gai. It runs a range of shops and spaces catering to inbound demand, including a kimono shop (rental and sale of vintage kimono), a kitchen car (matcha sweets), an open-air bar (a street bar offering hand-held fireworks and sake), a handmade market (a flea market for upcycled Japanese goods), an anime shop (figures and English-translated manga), and private lodging (Shoto, Daikanyama, Jingumae). Through direct store operations in Shibuya — an area that has ranked No. 1 in Japan for inbound visitor rate three years running (62.6%) — we gather real, on-the-ground consumption data. Built on these venues and the private street space "L Street" in Shibuya Center-gai is the "Katsugite" project. It combines live performances of local taiko and dance in an outdoor plaza (Show), explanatory panels and on-the-ground information (Inform), and costume experiences and interaction with performers (Experience) — leveraging Shibuya's position as an overwhelmingly high-traffic location to directly showcase a region's appeal. This brings the charm of regions across Japan to Shibuya and creates a spark that motivates inbound visitors to travel to that region during their trip, or on a future visit to Japan.
