Tourism EXPO Japan 2026

Iwate Prefecture

Iwate Prefecture offers a diverse range of attractions, including the magnificent natural beauty of Sanriku, a rich culinary culture, and traditional customs that have been passed down through generations.
Among these attractions, the Michinoku Coastal Trail is a world-renowned long-distance hiking trail and one of the few places in the world where visitors can walk while enjoying uninterrupted views of the ocean. Within Iwate alone, the trail stretches approximately 499 kilometers, allowing hikers to experience the breathtaking scenery of the Sanriku ria coastline, learn about the region's recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake, and encounter the daily lives and culture of local communities.
Visitors can also enjoy gourmet tours featuring local ingredients, including Ofunato's famous abalone, discover newly opened accommodations and restaurants, and explore topics related to the Rally Challenge. In addition, various festivals and events held throughout the region from winter to spring offer opportunities to experience Iwate's seasonal charm.
From well-known destinations to emerging attractions that are gaining attention, we will introduce a wide variety of experiences that showcase the very best of "today's Iwate."
