Among its many attractions, the Michinoku Coastal Trail is a globally unique long-distance hiking route where visitors can enjoy spectacular ocean views while walking. The trail stretches approximately 499 kilometers within Iwate Prefecture alone, offering not only breathtaking scenery along the dramatic ria coastline but also opportunities to learn about the impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake, the region's recovery efforts, and the daily lives of local residents.
