SAYUWON
Sayuwon is an arboretum and premium cultural tourism destination located on Palgongsan Mountain in Gunwi, approximately one hour by car from central Daegu. Set within around 52,000 square metres of natural landscape, it brings together 108 Chinese quince trees with an average age of more than 300 years, distinctive gardens, contemporary architecture, cultural arts and dining experiences.
Its architecture and landscape feature contributions from experts across multiple disciplines, including Pritzker Prize-winning architect Álvaro Siza, architect Seung H-Sang, and landscape architects Matsunobu Kawagishi and Youngsun Jung. Designed in consideration of the existing terrain, trees, visitor movement and sightlines, the buildings and gardens create a distinctive visitor journey connecting nature, architecture and art.
Sayuwon's principal visitor experiences include garden and architectural visits, expert-led interpretation programmes, seasonal walks, wellness experiences, Korean and Western dining, cafés, performances and cultural arts programmes. Its advance-reservation system and limited daily admissions help manage congestion and provide visitors with an immersive experience of the landscape and spaces.
Drawing on tourism content that combines Korean nature and garden culture with contemporary architecture, art and gastronomy, Sayuwon seeks opportunities to develop tourism products, collaborative content and joint promotions with travel companies, media organisations, tourism platforms and cultural institutions.
