Located in the southeastern part of Gifu Prefecture and bordering Nagano Prefecture, Nakatsugawa City is a tourist destination rich in natural beauty. It flourished as a post town on the Nakasendo Trail during the Edo period, and the townscape still retains the atmosphere of that era. A station for the Linear Chuo Shinkansen is scheduled to open in the city in the future, and urban development initiatives leveraging this new high-speed rail line are currently underway.
