Ena City offers a rich blend of history, nature, and local culture. Visitors can enjoy the scenic beauty of Ena Gorge throughout the four seasons, explore Iwamura Castle Town, famous for its well-preserved Edo-period streets and appearances in TV dramas, and visit the ruins of Iwamura Castle, one of Japan's 100 Famous Castles. The city is also home to the Nakasendo Hiroshige Museum of Art, where woodblock printmaking experiences are especially popular with international visitors, and the historic Oi Dam, Japan's first dam-built hydroelectric power station. Local specialties such as Gohei-mochi (grilled rice cakes with sauce), Kuri-kinton (sweet chestnut confection), and Tokoroten made from natural agar are also not to be missed.
Ena is conveniently located about one hour from Nagoya by JR Chuo Line or by car via the Chuo Expressway. Visitors can also enjoy a relaxing journey on the Akechi Railway, which runs through the countryside and offers sightseeing trains, including popular dining trains, with beautiful views of Japan's traditional rural landscape.
