Mino City

Mino City has a history dating back 1300 years, having been a center of the washi (Japanese paper) industry.The traditional hand-making technique of Honminoshi paper is registered as a UNESCO World Intangible Cultural Heritage and is considered one of Japan's most representative traditional crafts. The townscape with its distinctive "udatsu" (decorative gable ends) built by washi paper wholesalers is one of the prefecture's leading tourist attractions. The majestic townscape, which r etains the atmosphere of the Edo period, captivates many tourists. In fact, Mino City boasts three World Heritage Sites :the traditional hand-making technique of Honminoshi paper, the World Agricultural Heritage site " Ayu fish of the Nagara River,"and the World Heritage Irrigation Structure " Sodai Irrigation System."
