Tourism EXPO Japan 2026
Matsusaka City
Located almost in the center of Japan, Matsusaka City in Mie Prefecture offers excellent accessibility, just about 70 minutes by train from Nagoya and 90 minutes from Osaka. It is a city where you can encounter authentic, world-renowned "Matsusaka Beef," exquisite cuisine, and historic townscapes that evoke the spirit of wealthy merchants from the past.
The highlight of any trip to Matsusaka is, without a doubt, the food. The exquisite "Matsusaka Beef" can be enjoyed in various styles, including traditional sukiyaki and steak, as well as local favorites like yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) and sushi. You also cannot miss "Matsusaka Tori-yakiniku" (grilled chicken with a savory sweet-and-spicy miso sauce), or the fragrant "Matsusaka Tea" and local sweets nurtured by the city's rich natural environment.
Once your heart and stomach are satisfied, take a stroll through history. Flourishing as a post town for travelers on their way to Ise Jingu during the Edo period, Matsusaka was home to many wealthy merchants, including Takatoshi Mitsui, the founder of the Mitsui Group. "Matsusaka Cotton," a traditional textile loved by these merchants and a major trend in Edo, continues to captivate people today with its stylish striped patterns. By wearing a Matsusaka Cotton kimono and walking through streets that retain the atmosphere of the Edo period, you can experience a moment that feels like traveling back in time.
We invite you to visit our display at the Traditional Crafts corner within the Mie Prefecture booth. Our team is looking forward to welcoming you.
