Tourism EXPO Japan 2025 Aichi/Central Japan
Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park
Located in the southwestern part of Shikoku, both Ehime and Kochi prefectures are influenced by the Kuroshio Current, but the topographical formations are different and there are differences in scenery, industry, culture and other characteristics.
Accessibility is not great; it takes 3 hours from Kochi Airport to Cape Ashizuri! It takes 2.5 hours from Matsuyama Airport to Uwajima! But once you get there, you will be glad you came, and you will see landscapes that you have never seen before. In addition to diving, you can also enjoy snorkeling and glass-bottomed boats from which you can see underwater coral, making it a great place for people of all ages and genders.
■The Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park's main points of interest are as follows!
The number and diversity of fish species is one of the highest in Japan, with approximately 1,400 species reported.
→The park offers a wide variety of marine activities such as surfing, diving, snorkeling, and glass-bottom boats.
The Ashizuri area facing the Pacific Ocean has dynamic topography with cliffs, caves, and otherworldly coastlines. The Uwakai area, facing the Bungo Channel, has a rias coastline and islands. Inland areas include valleys characterized by smooth rocks.
A wealth of activities include surfing, diving, snorkeling, glass boating, canyoning, trekking, fishing, and more. People live based on the nature nurtured by the Kuroshio Current and the topography, and you can see the differences of each industry and culture, such as culture, industry, and lifestyle.
→For example, the Ashizuri area has a thriving fishing industry that "catches" bonito and other seafood, while the Uwakai area has a thriving aquaculture industry that "nurtures" sea bream and pearls, and both boast some of the highest quality and production in Japan. We also recommend the local cuisine that can only be found in the Uwakai region.
Proposals and consultation for model courses based on the theme
・As it is a little far from major transportation, we recommend a longer stay of at least 3 nights and 4 days
・Proposals for nature experience activities
・Learning about the Geopark and educational plans related to the SDG's, etc.
・May be a little inconvenient, but it is perfect for those who prefer less touristy places, such as "I want to visit places where my friends around me have never been" or "I want to see coral.
