Tourism EXPO Japan 2025 Aichi/Central Japan

Tomioka City Tourism Association
Tomioka City is located in the southwestern part of Gunma Prefecture, offering convenient access from Tokyo, taking approximately one hour via the Joshin-Etsu Expressway and Kan-Etsu Expressway, and about 30 minutes from Karuizawa via the Joshin-Etsu Expressway. By train, it takes about one and a half hour from Tokyo, using the Shinkansen and local lines. The World Heritage and National Treasure "Tomioka Silk Mill" is undergoing conservation and maintenance work. The Western Cocoon Warehouse was completed in May 2020 after six years of work and now houses a multipurpose hall and a gallery. Mount Myogi, originally a sacred mountain of worship, is counted among Japan's three most scenic spots due to its towering rock formations and bizarre stones. The mountain's mystical landscape created by nature offers breathtaking views, especially during the spring's fresh greenery and cherry blossoms, as well as the fiery autumn foliage. Within the same Myogi Panorama Park, where the "Momiji no Yu" day-trip hot spring offers a panoramic view of Mount Myogi and the Kanto Plain, the "Myogi Visitor Center," newly reopened in August 2023, can be found. The Myogi Visitor Center features a 3D model of Mount Myogi enhanced with projection mapping, VR goggles for a simulated climbing experience, and a café where visitors can enjoy meals with spectacular views of the mountain. Additionally, Tomioka City is home to several other attractions. These include the "Gunma Museum of Natural History," one of the leading museums in Japan showcasing valuable dinosaur specimens; the "Gunma Prefectural World Heritage Center," which explains the reasons behind the World Heritage designation of the Tomioka Silk Mill and Related Sites, highlighting the attractions of the three other component sites; and the "Ichinomiya Nukisaki Shrine" and "Myogi Shrine," both recognized as important cultural properties and famous power spots. The Ichinomiya Nukisaki Shrine is also renowned as one of Japan's three major descending shrines. Moreover, the "Gunma Safari Park," where animals roam freely within a vast area and visitors can experience the thrill of the wild, makes Tomioka City an enjoyable destination for families with children.
