About Shiraoi Town
Located in the southwestern part of Hokkaido, it is surrounded by the magnificent blue Pacific Ocean to the south and the majestic mountains that form part of Shikotsu-Toya National Park to the north.
It is a town rich in nature, with forests occupying approximately 75% of the area.
Since ancient times, the indigenous Ainu people have cultivated a rich lifestyle.
In July 2020, the National Ainu Museum and Park "Upopoy" opened around Lake Poroto in Shiraoi Town, Hokkaido, as a national center for the revival and development of Ainu culture.
