Tourism EXPO JAPAN 2024

Nikko Tourism Association

Conveniently located just two hours from Tokyo, Nikko City is a region that boasts four major resources not found in other regions.
We are confident in recommending our region with a treasure box of attractive locations that entice both domestic and international visitors, as a must-visit destination even for just a night or two when visiting Japan.

1. The Natural Beauty of Nikko National Park
Nikko's unique natural surroundings were created by a volcanic eruption about 20,000 years ago, which formed one of the most diverse and vibrant natural environments in Japan, including magnificent lakes and waterfalls, vast wetlands, and an abundance of natural hot springs.

2.The History and Culture of Nikko
Nikko's history stretches back more than 1,200 years. Nikko's story began when a monk, Shodo Shonin, received a divine revelation and ascended Mount Nantai (Futaarayama). Nikko's sacred land was enshrined as the "guardian god of peace throughout Japan" at Nikko Toshogu Shrine following the will of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the great leader who established the longest period of peace in Japan's history.

3. One of Japan's Premier Hot Springs
Since the birth of the lush natural environment about 20,000 years ago and the discovery of the plentiful hot springs by Shodo Shonin more than 1,200 years ago, Nikko has held its place as one of the best hot spring resort areas in Japan. There are many hot springs scattered throughout the region that boast abundant spring water.

4. Experiences in Nikko
In addition to enjoying nature and history, there are several other things to do in Nikko. For instance, visiting our amusement parks. Among them, there is the Nikko Edomura (Edo Wonderland), a place transported in time where visitors can experience the life and culture of people from the Edo period that Ieyasu Tokugawa established.
