Tourism EXPO JAPAN 2024

SHIKOKU

The Shikoku region is located to the southwest of Japan's Honshu main island and is made up of 4 prefectures: Tokushima, Kagawa, Ehime, and Kochi. Shikoku is the smallest of the four main islands which make up the Japanese archipelago, and although it is surrounded by the ocean, visitors can cross over from the main Honshu Island by various means such as ferry, car, train, or bicycle.
Shikoku has a warm and comfortable climate, and the cultivation of olives and citrus fruits such as Yuzu, Sudachi and mandarin is thriving.
In addition, you can savor the delicious local specialties of each area, such as Tokushima ramen, Sanuki udon, sea bream rice, and seared skipjack tuna.
Shikoku has diverse natural scenery and offers an astonishing wide variety of meaningful experiences, such as panoramic cycling, as discoverable on the Shimanami Kaido and UFO Line, deep nature activities in the mountains, rivers, and ocean, and cultural experiences such as indigo dyeing lessons and the evocative and creative art installations of the Seto Inland Sea.
In addition, this is the year of the Gyaku-uchi, the Shikoku Pilgrimage, a special and unique pilgrimage circumnavigating 88 sacred sites through all four prefectures of the region, which is said to bring three times the benefits of the pilgrimage once every four years if you start at the final sacred sites and work backward.
We hope you will visit Shikoku, which offers many remarkable attractions that celebrate our local culture and traditions in pilgrimage, local cuisine, and breathtaking nature.
