Tourism EXPO JAPAN 2024
Matsumoto City
Matsumoto City, known as the gateway to the Northern Alps, is a beautiful castle town with two national treasures: Matsumoto Castle and the former Kaichi School building (Scheduled to open on November 9th). The city boasts overwhelming natural beauty, including Kamikochi, one of Japan's most scenic mountain areas; Mt. Norikura, with its 3,000m-class peaks of the Northern Alps; and Utsukushigahara Plateau, with its 360-degree panoramic view from an altitude of 2,000m.
The city is also characterized by a culture that nurtures the arts and culture, with the Matsumoto Castle Town Springs, selected as one of the 100 Best Waters of the Heisei Era, Nakamachi Street lined with black and white namako-kabe earthen storehouses, Nawate Street, which recreates the scenery of a castle town, the Matsumoto City Museum of Art, which exhibits works by Yayoi Kusama, a world-renowned avant-garde artist born in Matsumoto City, the Matsumoto City Museum, which reopened after renovation in October last year, and the Matsumoto Folk Crafts Museum, which exhibits traditional Japanese crafts.
In the suburbs and along the mountains, there are 16 hot springs including Shirahone Onsen, campsites surrounded by the rich nature of Shinshu, and activities that can be enjoyed throughout the year, such as hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and snow trekking.
We will be setting up a booth that makes the most of these attractions, so we look forward to seeing you there.
