Hidaka Subprefectural Bureau
The Hidaka region is a land of breathtaking natural beauty, nestled between the Hidaka Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Renowned as one of the world's leading thoroughbred horse-breeding areas, it offers visitors the chance to admire champion racehorses and enjoy horseback riding experiences.
The region is home to a wealth of attractions, including Cape Erimo, where visitors can observe wild seals in their natural habitat; the spectacular cherry blossom avenue in Shinhidaka Town, selected as one of Japan's "100 Best Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots"; Nibutani Kotan, the Ainu village that served as a filming location for the live-action Golden Kamuy; and the Dimaccio Museum of Art, which houses the world's largest oil painting officially recognized by Guinness World Records.
With last year's TV drama set in the Hidaka region, the designation of Hidakasanmyaku-Erimo-Tokachi National Park in 2024, and the recent opening of new expressway interchanges, there has never been a better time to discover this exciting destination.
