Tourism EXPO Japan 2026

Nakatsugawa City/Magome juku

Nakatsugawa City in Gifu Prefecture, located in the heart of Japan, is blessed with a rich natural environment.
Once a flourishing transportation hub for key historical routes such as the Tosando and Hida Kaido roads, the city also welcomed travellers with its post towns along the famous Nakasendo Highway.
Combining nature, history and culture, Nakatsugawa City offers diverse
transformations and delights shaped by the distinctive four seasons of Japan.
Magome post town, is an Edo period village. A sloping stone road runs through the town. There are many houses in the eaves of either side of the road. The turn on the steep cobbled road makes it assessable to people and horses, but designed to be difficult for enemies. It is a village lost in time. In recent years, many people have been enjoying hiking by combining it with the neighboring Tsumago-juku in what's called the "Magome-Tsumago Hiking."
In the Nakatsugawa area, there are unique cultural and historical experiences you can enjoy, like "Japanese cultural experiences in Nakasendo post towns" and "learning to cook local dishes in the satoyama countryside."You can indulge your five senses while you tour around.
