No.23_An Edo Travelogue through Four Hokuso Cities
In the Edo Period, an attractive Japanese culture blossomed in the town of Edo (the old name of Tokyo). Just how much can we feel the aspect of old Edo in the newly evolved city? Sakura, Narita, Sawara, and Choshi of Chiba Prefecture These are four cities of the Hokuso Area, which supported and developed together with Edo of the old times, and in which the atmosphere of the Edo Period can be felt to this day. As they are near Narita Airport, it can be noted that they are the closest Edo style cities to the rest of the world. We also discovered Edo in these four Hokuso cities!
The four cities of the Hokuso Region, adjacent to the metropolis, were influenced by Edo, and developed their own unique characteristics, such as Sakura as a castle town, Narita as a temple town, Sawara as a merchant's town, and Choshi as a port town. Traditional cultures such as festivities as well as the unchanged townscapes have continued on from the Edo Period in the four cities of the Hokuso Area. We invite you to visit the four Hokuso cities where you can feel the prosperity and the atmosphere of the old Edo.
