Amami Oshima is a subtropical island located between mainland Kagoshima and
Okinawa Island. The island has rich nature in the mountain areas inhabited by
diverse and rare species. Last summer, Amami Oshima will be registered as a
World Natural Heritage site, along with Tokunoshima Island, the northern part of
Okinawa Island, and Iriomote Island. However, the nature is not the only appeal
