Mombetsu City in Hokkaido is centrally located along the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk and is
easily accessible, with a flight from Haneda Airport to Okhotsk Mombetsu Airport taking only 1
hour and 45 minutes.
The main attraction for summer tourism is flower viewing. The Okhotsk Lavender Field is a
stunning summer scenic spot, with a beautiful contrast against the Okhotsk Blue.
In winter, it's all about ice floe sightseeing! The experience of dynamically moving through and
crushing the ice floes with the screw-shaped drill mounted on the Garinko-go ship is something
you can only experience in Mombetsu.
And... the scallops, a local specialty, are exceptional! After releasing the young scallops into the
sea, they grow robustly for four years in the cold seawater, feeding on the nutrient-rich plankton
carried by the ice floes. Unlike farmed scallops, these have a concentrated flavor and excellent
texture.
