International dark sky places cooperation council
On September 18, 2024, the "Council of Certified Dark Sky Reserves®" was established through collaboration between Kozushima Village in Tokyo, Ibara City in Okayama Prefecture, and Ono City in Fukui Prefecture, all of which have certified Dark Sky Reserves® in Japan.
The purpose of this council is to promote awareness of light pollution in Japan, further disseminate the Dark Sky Reserve certification system, increase recognition of certified areas, and promote tourism by utilizing the stargazing resources that each region possesses, through collaboration among the municipalities that oversee certified Dark Sky Reserves.
