Taiwan's Indigenous People
Taiwan is a beautiful island located in the Asian Pacific Ocean and is home to various ethnic groups. There are about 567,000 indigenous people, which is about 2% of the country' s total population, living in Taiwan. At present, the 16 ethnic groups of Indigenous people that have been recognized by the Government are: Amis, Atayal, Paiwan, Bunun, Pinuyumayan, Rukai, Cou, Saisiyat,Yami, Thao, Kavalan, Truku, Sakizaya, Sediq, Hla'alua, Kanakanavu. Each group have their own culture, language, customs and social structure. For Taiwan, the indigenous people are an important source of history and culture and are unique and beautiful treasures.
