Countryside Stays@TOHOKU(JA Tourism & Communications)
1. Business Overview
We design and develop experiential travel programs in the rural areas of Tohoku that allow visitors to experience the region's nature, cuisine, culture, and way of life. Rather than simply visiting tourist attractions, we offer travel experiences that enable guests to interact with local residents and immerse themselves in the traditions, culture, industries, and food that have been passed down through generations, providing an opportunity to experience the "real Japan."
Our programs include local gastronomy experiences, traditional cultural activities, guided tours of rural life led by local residents, hands-on learning experiences with artisans, outdoor activities, and primary industry experiences such as farming and fishing. Travelers participate in these programs as if they were members of the local community, allowing them to gain a deeper appreciation of the unique attractions and values of each destination.
Through interactions with local producers, chefs, artisans, and guides, we also provide opportunities for travelers to learn about the history, culture, and values that have shaped the region's resources and communities. In doing so, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of Japan and its people.
2. Key Features of Our Travel Experiences
(1) Authentic Experiences that Offer Deep Connections with Local Life
We curate experiences that allow travelers to immerse themselves in the history, culture, and lifestyles that have been preserved and passed down within local communities. These include local gastronomy experiences that trace the journey of food from production to the dining table, lifestyle experiences that reveal how communities live in harmony with nature, and artisan experiences that showcase the skills, wisdom, and values that reflect the Japanese spirit.
Each experience tells a story unique to its region. Travelers do not simply enjoy activities; they gain insight into the lifestyles and cultural values that underpin Japanese society, resulting in a deeper and more meaningful travel experience.
(2) Participatory, Exchange-Focused Tourism that Creates Meaningful Connections
Our tours place great importance on interaction with local artisans, chefs, residents, and producers.
Through hands-on activities such as craft-making, cooking, and nature experiences, travelers engage with local lifestyles and cultures while building meaningful relationships with community members. These interactions help visitors deepen their understanding of Japanese food culture, local communities, and regional industries.
We provide discoveries and moments of inspiration that cannot be experienced through independent sightseeing alone.
(3) Customized Experiences Designed for Small Groups
We believe that meaningful travel comes from genuine connections between travelers and local communities, as well as the personal insights gained through these encounters. For this reason, our programs are designed for small groups of approximately ten participants.
This approach not only ensures ample opportunities for interaction with local residents but also allows us to respond flexibly to each participant's interests and preferences, creating more personalized and enriching travel experiences
