Gifu City is home to the " Cormorant Fishing on the Nagara River," a traditional Japanese fishing practice with a 1,300-year history; "Gifu Castle," perched atop a 329-meter mountain and once the stronghold of a Sengoku-period warlord; the "The Great Buddha of Gifu," Japan's largest lacquered and gilded Great Buddha; "Kawaramachi," where traditional artisan techniques are still preserved; "Nagaragawa Onsen," which ranks among Japan's top 100 hot springs every year; and "Tamamiya," an izakaya district where you can enjoy local gourmet fare and regional cuisine.
