Takachiho Town, located in the northern part of Miyazaki Prefecture, is a richly storied tourist destination known as the setting of the Japanese myth of "Tenson Korin" (the descent of the heavenly grandson to earth).
The town brings together nature, mythology, and traditional performing arts in one compact area — from Takachiho Gorge, whose stunning scenery was carved by Aso's lava flows and is graced by the Manai Falls, to numerous shrines connected to the myths, and Takachiho no Yokagura, the sacred night kagura dance performed to welcome the gods.
