Tourism EXPO Japan 2026
HIYOSHIYA
For more than 160 years, Hiyoshiya has been crafting and selling Kyo-Wagasa (traditional Kyoto umbrellas) in Nishijin, one of Kyoto's historic artisan districts.
Through our workshops, guests can create their own mini Wagasa umbrella or a lighting piece made with Japanese washi paper while discovering the history and craftsmanship behind this traditional art.
Along the way, you'll uncover fascinating stories, little-known facts, and how centuries-old techniques continue to inspire contemporary design.
In our workshop, filled with the gentle scent of bamboo and traditional materials, you can watch artisans carefully craft each piece by hand.
With our workshop and store under one roof, you can also take your time browsing and shopping for your favorite umbrellas and lighting pieces after the experience.
