Tourism EXPO Japan 2025 Aichi/Central Japan

Penghu County

Penghu, nestled in a remote corner of the vast ocean, comprises
90 large and small islets scattered across waters frequented by the
Kuroshio Current. With its abundant marine resources, Penghu
is indeed a jewel of the sea, shaped and molded into a unique
paradise over tens of millions of years.
Beyond its extraordinary geological wonders, Penghu holds
a special place due to its geographical significance as a vital
waypoint for major shipping routes in East Asia. It once served as
a transit point for Han Chinese immigrants crossing the Taiwan
Strait in search of a better future. Seven centuries have elapsed
since Penghu was first settled during the Yuan Dynasty, making its
history among the oldest settlements in all of Taiwan.
As a globally renowned tourist and vacation destination, Penghu's
captivating beauty has long been a topic of discussion. In 2010,
Penghu was ranked 7th among the world's top 10 secret islands by
the world's largest travel guide, Lonely Planet. In 2012, it became
a member of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World (MBBW)
organization, making it one of 56 destinations with the most
beautiful bays worldwide.
