Bibai City in Hokkaido is located almost halfway between Sapporo City and Asahikawa City, and is conveniently located for access to Furano, Biei, and New Chitose Airport.
It is the number one producer of haskap in Japan, and the longest straight road in Japan runs through the center of the city. Bibai yakitori and torimeshi (chicken skewers) are also well-known local dishes.
There is also the Yasuda Kan Sculpture Museum Arte Piazza Bibai, where you can enjoy the artistic space of world-renowned sculptor Yasuda Kan, who was born in Bibai and is based in Italy. There is also Miyajima-numa (a Ramsar Convention registered wetland) where more than 60,000 white-fronted geese fly in, Tomei Park, a famous spot for cherry blossoms, Bibai Coal Mine Memorial Forest Park, a coal mining heritage site, and Bibai Snowland, Japan's largest snow activity area. This is another "place" where you can relax and unwind while staying close to the city.
